Static Websites
Many website are called static website. It is primarily coded in HTML (Hyper-text Markup Language). It generally is made up of a few pages (sometimes quite a lot of pages), may include information about a company and its products and services with text, photos, Flash animation, audio/video and interactive menus and navigation. This type of website usually displays the same information to all visitors, thus the information is static. It can be compared to a printed brochure to customers or clients (albeit in a digital form).
CMS
CMS stands for content management system. They are used to create, edit, manage, and publish content in a website. Once the CMS has been installed and customized, the editor doesn't needs knowledge of HTML, or any other scripting language to update the website.
CMS can be custom-made (to fit your specifications), or made from a ready-built software (such as Joomla) and customised
to suit.
e-Commerce
e-Commerce websites aim to sell goods or services online. They basically are on online store, complete with shopping cart, and can feature an online payment system, through a payment gateway (a bank payment gateway, or a sytem such as Paypal). They generally consist of 2 sections:
- the front end, which is what the users see
- theback end, or administration, through which the website owner can manage the online store (ie; add products)
Blogs
A blog is a type of website, or part of, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Basically it is a CMS wherethe users decide on the content, and the user can leave comment (it is up the owner to publish those comments or not).
